LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- David Camm is charged with the murder of his wife Kim and two kids, Brad and Jill. He’s facing his third trial with his third defense team, but Kitty Liell’s belief that her former client is innocent hasn’t changed.

“Oh, I know he is. I’ve never doubted that,” Liell said.

Liell represented Camm during his second trial but later removed herself from the case.
“You cannot imagine what a physical and emotional toll defending an innocent person like Dave Camm is,” Liell said.

Both of Camm’s convictions have been overturned on appeal. Current defense attorney Richard Kammen will be going into this trial with new evidence connected to Charles Boney, the man already convicted of the crimes in 2006.

“The new DNA places him, not only on the scene that he can't explain, but it places him inside Kim's underwear. That's really hard to explain,” Liell said.

For nearly 13 years police and prosecutors have alleged Camm was involved, but their theories that brought convictions won’t be allowed at this trial because of a lack of evidence. At trial, Charles Boney is expected to testify against David Camm, but it could wind up benefitting the defense according to Liell.

“…I anticipate Charles Boney will have a different story, but boy I can’t wait to see his story tested in the adversarial system because Rick Kammen can do a cross examination unlike anything I have ever seen in my life,” Liell said.

Liell said she last spoke with Camm in July, sometimes talking about the case and sometimes about family. Brad and Jill would have been the same age as her kids.
