CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Prosecutors say they'll drop charges against an Indiana couple who nursed an injured deer back to health and kept it on their farm for two years.

Decatur County prosecutors say charges against Connersville Police Officer Jeff Counceller and his wife Jennifer will be dropped by the end of the week.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Douglas Brown says the decision was made in response to a request from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The charges outraged thousands of people who signed a petition calling for the charges to be dropped.

Governor Mike Pence was even asked to pardon the Councellers.
