Serious accident on SR 135 near Corydon turns fatal, victim identified

CORYDON, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A serious crash in Harrison County on Hwy. 135 just south of Corydon has turned fatal after a driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Indiana State Police said the accident happened around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on State Road 135 at Fairview Church Road.

Police said Denise L. Meitzler, 53 of Corydon, was traveling with her 6-year-old grandchild east on Fairview Church Road when she failed to stop at the sign as she approached SR 135. Meitzler ran onto SR 135 and her vehicle was struck on the passenger's side by 21-year-old Paul F. Roberts of New Salisbury.

All three were transported to the Harrison County Hospital where Meitzler was pronounced dead.

Meitzler's grandchild was flown from Harrison County Hospital to Kosair Children's Hospital and is reported to have suffered serious injuries.

Roberts suffered non life-threatening injuries.
