CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A class action lawsuit was filed against the drug court program in Clark County, Ind. on Feb. 18.
The court is accused of keeping people in jail months longer than their sentence and making questionable arrests.
On Tuesday those who've come forward making the claims have taken legal action and their attorney filed a class action lawsuit in federal court. The suit claims the plaintiffs were unlawfully detained and their civil rights were violated.
Attorney Michael Augustus filed the suit at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The drug court director was fired in the wake of the scandal. The bailiff for drug court was suspended without pay and was still off the job Tuesday.
A special prosecutor could file criminal charges against the staff members in question. The special prosecutor will determine if the former director and bailiff broke the law when they took drug court defendants into custody.
This is the first lawsuit but there could be more.
