CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A Clarksville, Ind. man pleaded guilty to raping and killing a teen in a Clark County court on Thursday, April 17.

Hooten, 49, admitted he raped and murdered 17-year-old Tara Rose Willenborg at a Clarksville apartment complex March 2, 2013 after seeing her sitting outside when he returned from a bar.

He called a press conference to discuss the rape and murder days after his arrest. He described strangling her during sex, then trying to make it appear like she strangled herself.

Today he was spared the death penalty by taking a plea of life in prison. The victim’s family signed off on the agreement.

In addition to the life sentence Hooten also received an additional 70 years. There is no possibility for parole.
