INDIANAPOLIS (WHAS11) – An Amber Alert is in place for Sophia Snow, 8, and police said they beleive she is in extreme danger after being abducted by her mother. The two may have taken I-65 from Indiana to Louisville, where Louisville Metro Police are searching.
Raymond Wagner is Sophia's grandfather and is the father of Jennifer Ansari, 37.
"As far as my daughter's location and this is the God's truth I talked to my daughter yesterday. I told her straight up don't tell me where you are because I'm not lying to the police department," Wagner said.
Police said Ansari took her young daughter and left Indiana.
"My daughter would not cause any harm to Sophia Snow," Wagner said.
An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday night.
The two drove away from a home in Fishers, near Indianapolis, in a burgundy-colored four door 2012 Honda Civic with KY license plate 779NZJ.
It took four days to issue the alert after authorities said Ansari violated a court order to hand over her daughter to her ex-boyfriend, Aaron Snow.
"If we used Amber Alert in all of those circumstances, on average we would do an Amber Alert every 43 minutes. I think at some point the viewing public would become disenchanted with it," Sgt. Dave Bursten with Indiana State Police said.
Wagner claims that Ansari's ex-boyfriend is unfit to be a guardian, even though the Hamilton County, Ind. prosecutor said the two were once husband and wife.
"Aaron Snow has never been proven to be the father, there was no DNA and they were never married. They guy has an extreme deviant past," Wagner said.
Snow's attorney, Rodney Sarcovics, said his client never faced criminal charges and has been targeted with accusations.
Fishers police said the girl missed school during the custody battle.
"It doesn't appear at this time that she intends to surrender the child. We are working closely with Indiana State Police and Louisville Metro Police," Tom Weger with Fishers Police Department said.
Wagner said his daughter is not ready to give up her daughter as of Wednesday evening.
Snow is 3-feet-10 inches, with blonde hair and blue eyes and weighs approximately 50 pounds.
They were last seen traveling in a burgundy 2012 Honda Civic with a Kentucky license plate 779 NZJ.
