JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday night at Jeffersonville High School. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will hear comments from consumers on the current 812 area code running out of numbers. If nothing is done it would be exhausted by March 2015.
Southern Indiana will be getting a new area code one of two ways.
“If there's a geographic split we could be in the area that will get the new code and we could be in the area that will not. If there's an overlay you would have the two area codes in the same area,” Anthony Swinger, Spokesperson for the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor said.
A decision is expected later this year. If you cannot attend the meeting you’re encouraged to leave comments here.
