FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Two teens believed to be responsible for the brutal murders of an elderly Harrison County couple had their first court appearances on Monday for unrelated charges in Floyd County.
Austin Scott, 18, pleaded not guilty to the three felony charges in Floyd County. He's charged with one count of criminal recklessness, possession of a controlled substance, and receiving stolen property. His co-defendant 18-year-old Kevin Schuler faces similar charges.
Floyd County prosecutor Keith Henderson said when the pair was arrested Saturday by New Albany police they had stolen items with them that appeared to be taken from a homicide scene in Harrison County.
Investigators believe the teens brutally beat Asenath Arnold and stabbed Gary Henderson to death after robbing them early Saturday morning.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, the motive was robbery. The teens allegedly took credit cards, guns and prescription pills.
On Monday family and friends of both teens were inside the Floyd County Courthouse.
Both teens are being held on $500,000 bond. Keith Henderson requested the high bond to keep them behind bars while Harrison County prepares to file murder and robbery charges.
