EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Police have arrested two southwestern Indiana women for allegedly attacking an Evansville police officer following a Fourth of July festival.

Court documents say Officer Matthew Knight suffered facial bruises and scrapes on his head, chin, neck and knee in Thursday night's attack in the Ohio River city.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/14YvozE ) that Knight says he was punched, kicked and beaten by an unruly crowd of people who were leaving Evansville's ShrinerFest.

Officers were called the scene after a group of about 30 people started several fights at the festival.

Police arrested an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman in the attack. They face preliminary charges of battery of a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.
