LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Construction on a new Ohio River bridge between downtown Louisville and southern Indiana is expected to start in July and last a little more than three years.

Officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Chicago-based Walsh Build Design Team unveiled the timeline Wednesday during a news conference in Louisville.

The work in Louisville includes upgrades to the Kennedy bridge that currently carries Interstate 65 across the river, new on-ramps in southern Indiana and a redesign of "Spaghetti Junction" in Louisville.

The project is part of a larger effort that also includes a new bridge between Utica, Ind., and Prospect, Ky.

The states have divided work on the project, with Kentucky overseeing the downtown work and Indiana in charge of a new eastern Jefferson County crossing.
