(WHAS11) -- A Massachusetts woman looking for a new doctor claims that she turned away because of her size.
Ida Davidson weighs over 200 pounds. The doctor she visited Helen Carter says her office can no longer accept heavy patients because members of her staff were repeatedly injured working with overweight people.
Dr. Carter says that either way Davidson would be better off with a specialist with more resources.
According to American Medical Association's ethical guidelines both patients and doctors are allowed to exercise freedom when entering into a patient-physician relationship.
