(WHAS11) -- The more we have technology at our fingertips, the more new injuries that seem to spring up. The latest is called "texting thumb."

More people are affected by "texting thumb" and neck problems because of their cell phones.

Americans spend an estimated 2.7 hours a day on their phones. Your neck is supposed to have a C-shaped curve but when you are texting or talking on a cell phone for hours at a time you can lose some of that curve.

If you're texting more than talking, you could get what's known as texting thumb which causes damage to your joints and ligaments.

Doctors say after ten minutes of texting you should take a 15 minute break to stretch your neck.
