LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - - Obesity and smoking are both bad for our bodies and now a connection has been made between the two.
A study by general psychiatry looked at teenagers who were exposed to smoking in the womb and other teens who were not.
Those who were exposed to smoke weighed less at birth but later weighed more and had more total body fat than teens that had not been exposed.
The exposure to a mother's cigarette smoke while in the womb could actually increase a child's risk for obesity.
The study also found the teens whose mothers smoked while carrying them also had a smaller part of the brain that helps limit fat intake.
