(WHAS11) -- A new study suggests that hand sanitizer could weaken your muscles. The study found the antibacterial chemical triclosan hinders muscle contractions.

Researchers at the the University of Colorado and California found the chemical slowed swimming fish and weakened muscular strength in mice.

Triclosan is found in many products advertised as antibacterial and many that are not. Besides hand soap, you may find the chemical in mouthwashes, deodorants, lipstick and trash bags.
