LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A new warning about handling raw chicken: It turns out, you may have been doing it completely wrong.
A video released by food safety researchers shows that washing chicken before cooking is even more dangerous.
The reason is the germs are sprayed everywhere. They wind up on the sink, on the counter, even on the person doing the cooking.
One study found that the germs can go as far as three feet away.
Studies show that you can wash your chicken as much as you want, but there's still harmful bacteria on the surface, including salmonella, that isn't killed until it's thoroughly cooked.
