Louisville, Ky. (WHAS) – Kentucky’s new law aimed at cutting prescription drug abuse appears to be working.

Since the bill went into effect in July, 10 pain management clinics in Kentucky have been closed. The governor’s office says the amount of hydrocodone prescribed had dropped more than seven percent in August. Prescriptions for oxycodone and xanax are also down.

Lawmakers passed the prescription drug bill during a special session in April.
