(WHAS 11)--New guidelines out for treating childhood ear infections.

The American Academy of Pediatricians is now recommending parents monitor kids for at least three days before going to the doctor.

Doctors say they want you to wait and see if the infection goes away on its own.

Doctors say the overuse of antibiotics is creating a medicine-resistant strain of bacteria.

They do say if your child has a serious ear infection with symptoms like high fever and significant pain you will probably need a doctor.
