LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- The third phase of the new Kosair Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was unveiled on Monday afternoon.
The $24.5 million renovation project is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. There will be 44 private rooms for neonatal patients, including rooms for families of twins.
Babies will begin to move into the new space in early January.
Dr. Tomas Kmetz, spokesperson for Kosair, said the rooms will have plenty of room for visitors, patients and staff.
“We’ll have 150 to 180 square feet per room,” he said.
The rooms will also have flat screen televisions, rocking chairs and storage areas.
Two more phases are expected in the expansion project.
