LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Water is necessary for survival, but clean water can be hard to come by in places like rural Africa. That's why a group of volunteers from Louisville went on a mission to Kenya.
Jessie Halladay works for the Jefferson County Attorney's Office. She just returned from working in Kenya for more than a week with the Louisville-based nonprofit WaterStep. Halladay, along with three Louisville Metro Police officers, helped install 10 pumps to provide fresh water to people in need.
WaterStep has a presence in more than 20 countries, and recently volunteers went to the Philippines to help take water purifiers to victims of Hurricane Haiyan.
