Local leaders are hoping a new grant will help veterans with legal advice.

There are 344,000 veterans in Kentucky and nearly 1/3 of the state's veterans don't have the legal representatives they need.

The legal services corporation has awarded a $79,000 grant to the legal aid society to provide legal assistance to low income veterans in Kentucky.

"As someone whose office deals with the legal problems of veterans, we know they need support and help beyond that it is our nation's veterans who fought to guarantee us the same rights we are trying to restore for them," John Yarmuth.

Kentucky is one of only four states awarded this grant.
