(WHAS11) -- Kentucky tops the list for states where physicians prescribe the most antibiotics.
There has been a national decrease in antibiotic use but a new study reveals that overuse does remain an issue in southeastern states and it is a concern.
Experts say an increased use of antibiotics can cause patients to become resistant to them.
Here's a look at the five states that used the most antibiotics in 2010: Kentucky, followed by West Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.
