LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Kentucky State Fair started Thursday, August 16 and will run through the 26th and so far, there have not been any reported cases of the swine flu in Kentucky. The disease has been confirmed in Indiana and health officials are warning people about the sickness.

The best advice is to make sure that you wash your hands frequently, don't eat around swine, and stay out of the face of a sick pig. If you are at high risk of contracting any flu, it is strongly suggested that you avoid pigs entirely.

Doctors say not everything is a risk though and that swine flu is not transmitted by eating pork and is rarely passed from human to human.

WHAS11's Brooke Katz was at the fair Thursday morning as it opened its gates.
