LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WHAS11) -- A Jewish Hospital surgeon has completed something that no other doctor in the world has before.

Doctor David Caborn recently performed the world's first Sequent Meniscal Repair procedure on a 17-year-old high school athlete from Ohio County, Ky.

Cody Murphy injured his knee in February during a basketball game.

The new procedure allowed the Meniscus tissue to be saved and has long term benefits.

"Initially I was a little bit nervous...was thinking about it and didn't feel comfortable, but after I thought about the opportunity this could potentially help thousands if not millions of people out there...so if I could be the first one and it works than why not," Murphy said.

Murphy is still recovering but expects to be back on the basketball court soon.
