(WHAS11) -- Beginning Wednesday 47 million American women will have access to free birth control.
It's a part of the affordable care act that takes effect August 1. It requires insurance companies to provide women with FDA approved contraceptives at no cost.
Some insured women currently pay a co-pay or deductible.
Congress passed the health-care law more than two years ago but its being implemented in phases.
