(WHAS11) - Sometimes it’s the women who seem to have it all that are struggling the most.

The Healing Place in Louisville has been helping men and women in crisis for years.

Now they have a new center specifically for women and children and Tuesday residents moved in to their new home.

This highlands mother had it all.

“When I was there with my daughter, carpooling taking her to games, being a great mother,” said Anne Shafer.

She worked hard to fool people for years, constantly trying to prove everything was fine but eventually her addiction to alcohol caught up with her.

“I wouldn't drink for 3 weeks then I would binge every day for a week and black out,” said Shafer.

For Sylvia Simpson, her addiction was crack cocaine.

Even her strong family upbringing couldn't stop this mother doing anything to get high.

Both women are now sober and recovering thanks in part to the healing place.

The drug recovery center has now completed their $19 million new women's facility.

Tuesday the ladies moved in, they're settling into their new home that was four years in the making.

For the first time the women will be able to live with their children while they are recovering at the healing place in their own rooms.

And for Anne Shafer, she'll have time to do simple things like cook a meal with her daughter once again.

The Healing Place says it plans to serve 3600 women and 400 children annually in its new facility.
