Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11)- Would you go to your local pharmacy, to get tested for HIV and AIDS?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is setting up a pilot program to find out.

The CDC has announced a $1.2 million program to offer rapid HIV tests at drugstores in 24 cities and rural communities.

The test involves a swab inside the mouth, with results ready in about 20 minutes.

Health officials estimate that 1.1 million Americans are infected with HIV, but as many as 20 percent do not know they have the virus.
