(WHAS11) - The University of Louisville is getting a big boost from the federal government to help in the event of a pandemic, an epidemic of infectious disease.
The 18-month installment of $3.3 million will go to developing computer software in response to a pandemic.
It comes after the university provided support for one of the largest vaccination efforts ever in this area when 20,000 people successfully received the swine flu vaccine at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
The research group is headed by an industrial engineering professor who will work with a group to provide a "real time" decision support system that could provide medical care where needed.
