Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The Jefferson County Health Department says it's ready for the first public swine flu vaccine clinics. The first is Wednesday.
Metro police will be out in full force to move traffic along and have trained for what could be long lines.
The health department is promising that they will not run out of the vaccine.
Wednesday morning there will be ten drive-thru lines and 15 walkup locations. There will be a TARC bus pick-up and drop off.
Along the interstates, TRIMARCK signs will notify commuters of delays.
There are nearly 15,000 vaccines ready for Wednesday and Thursday and more in reserve, but nearly 300,000 Jefferson County residents in the at-risk category who need the vaccine and that could create lines.
People can begin lining up at 7:00 a.m.
Anyone arriving earlier will be asked to move along.
While this flu is attacking more children than adults, the health department is encouraging parents to wait for the vaccine, which is expected in schools later this month and December.
It's difficult for many to wait when the number of deaths related to H1N1 is on the rise.
If you plan to come Wednesday or Thursday, more than likely there will be traffic. Everyone is encouraged to use TARC, which is picking up and dropping off at government centers.
Once inside the lots, U of L takes over and they plan to have 30 security officers at all times.
