Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The CDC has released what's being called an eye-opening study.

It shows that one in ten deaths of people between the ages of 20 and 64 are due to drinking excessive almounts of alcohol.

That's 88,000 deaths a day in the United States.

Here's what the study considers to be heavy drinking:

  • For women, it's about eight drinks or more a week.
  • For men, it's 15 or more drinks.

Most of the deaths are from drunk driving crashes and chronic alcohol conditions.
