LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The Red Cross’ annual Donorama
Blood Drive kicked off on Thursday during a critical season for the organization.
Officials with American Red Cross said the holiday season is a time when blood supplies are low.
“Someone needs blood in this country every two seconds that need is always there,” said Lindsay English, American Red Cross. “One pint of blood will save three lives, so it really does make a difference.”
Eric Matheson and his family are making participating in the Donorama, now in its 36th year, a tradition.
An Army veteran, he said the event is a way to express to his children that the holiday season is not just a time for receiving, but also a time to give back.
“I know that it helps the local community and the disasters that occur,” Matheson said. “I know a little bit of me contributing can actually save lives,” he said.
The Donorama Blood Drive will be December 26-27 from noon to 7 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 830 Phillips Lane.
