(WHAS11) -- The three candidates for Indiana’s open senate seat debated in Fort Wayne recently.
Currently, republican Dan Coats leads democrat Brad Ellsworth and libertarian Rebecca Sink-Burris in the race to replace outgoing democratic senator Evan Bayh.
Coats and Ellsworth both say the tax code is too complex right now.
“People should know and businesses should know what they have to pay on a percentage,” Ellsworth said. “You shouldn't have to have an accountant to do a very simple tax form in this country.”
Coats had this to say about the tax code.
“I think we need fundamental tax code reform,” Coats said. “We need fairer, flatter, simpler. There are a number of provisions out there, proposals out there that I think are sensible to take a look at.”
The candidates will debate again on Monday before the election.
