(ABC NEWS/WHAS11) -- President Obama has won a second term, emerging victorious in what had been a deadlocked race into the final hours of the campaign.

Obama's lease on the White House was renewed with a crucial victory in Ohio.

Celebrations erupted in Obama's hometown of Chicago, while Romney's Boston headquarters went mournfully quiet.
