LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) --Two JCPS elementary schools are at the bottom of the scale when it comes to making the grade on statewide test scores.
The Kentucky Department of Education is stepping in to help Maupin and Wellington Elementary get back on track. Maupin was deemed the lowest performing school in Kentucky following a large drop in test scores for both reading and math. Wellington Elementary also saw a significant drop in both subjects.
The State Department of Education wants to turn that around and plans to send in a team to both schools sometime between now and December.
Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt added that he thinks they will be finished with their review by the first of the year and make recommendations to JCPS leaders on how to change the path of Maupin and Wellington Elementary.
