Mayor: Neighborhood, charter school bills 'moving too quickly'

Mayor makes statements on education bills

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Mayor Greg Fischer took to Facebook Sunday to address his concerns with the education legislation moving through Frankfort.

Mayor Fischer says HB 151 or the neighborhood schools bill and HB 520, the charter school bill are both moving too quickly.

He says he does believe good charter schools can provide opportunities for quality learning but the bull has several problems yet to be addressed including allowing uncertified teachers and allowing corporations to profit through for-profit schools.

Mayor Fisher says the neighborhood schools bill will have great unintended consequences like creating schools of dense poverty.

He’s urging families who may be impacted by these bills to contact their state Senator.
