JCPS provides grief counselors as students deal with tragedy

Counselors help students cope with tragedy

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Grief counselors at JCPS have been busy as students mourn the recent deaths of two young people.

Troyvonte Hurt, 14, attended Minor Daniels Academy and was killed last week in the Smoketown neighborhood. Tremain Brown Jr., 12, attended Stuart Academy and was accidently shot by his younger brother.

But counselors don’t just get involved in cases of violence. Last week, a crisis team was sent to the Binet School after the death of a teacher.

In addition to grief counseling, JCPS provides help for students dealing with bullying, stress, anxiety and suicidal thoughts.
