LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Parents, employees and board members of Jefferson County Public Schools are banding together to fight against the neighborhood schools bill, also known as House Bill 151.
The bill would ensure students could go to the school closest to their home.
Representatives from JCPS displayed maps on how the changes could impact students and diversity, which board members say isn’t in the best interest of the district.
“If this passes, we will do as told. I worked for this district in 1975. I did what I was told to – we do not need to go back. Going back will not get us to where we need to be,” Diane Porter, a board member said.
The board voted to oppose House Bill 151.
The bill has passed the House and is now in the Senate Education Committee.
