LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A battle over state college funding came to an end Saturday as a court date has been canceled for Monday after the governor and attorney general reached an agreement on the higher education budget cuts.
A spokesman for Attorney General Andy Beshear says the agreement signed Friday means both sides will not be in court.
The agreement also paves the way to releasing the money held aside when Governor Matt Bevin cut two percent of funding at the end of the last fiscal year which ended July 1.
The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled in favor of Beshear saying Governor Bevin overstepped his power ordering the same-year cuts.
It’s unclear when state funded colleges will receive the funds however, the agreement should directly impact the timing.
