LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- If you drove past Westport Middle School you couldn't help notice students trying to get your attention to donate food!

It’s all part of kids helping kids fight hunger and gathering food to benefit the Dare to Care Food Bank.

It was their part of the Give a Day project all this week by Louisville’s mayor, and work in conjunction with Yum! Brands for their can stand program.

Westport students are collecting from others but bringing their own to school as well to feed the hungry in Kentuckiana.

Children who participated by donating food got lemonade and a chance to win prizes.

Schools throughout Kentuckiana are donating their time and effort in the mayor's Give a Day.
