(WHAS11) -- The well known principal of Jeffersonville High School has been placed on paid leave by the school superintendent, but it is unclear why.

WHAS11 News has learned from school board member Nancy Kraft that Jim Sexton of Jeffersonville was put on leave Wednesday pending an investigation by the school system.

A news release sent out by the Greater Clark County media spokeswoman would only say "Sexton is not in the office." It did go on to say that no disciplinary action has been taken against him.

“I’m very disappointed. It is a great school. I was told by the Superintendent yesterday afternoon that I’m on paid leave and he gave me no time frame for how long. He gave me no idea why I was being put on leave," said Sexton to WHAS11's Doug Proffitt.

When WHAS11 asked if he would resign Sexton had this to say:

“I’m staying of course. I want to be the principal of Jeff High. Whatever they’re talking about I’ll be vindicated. I’m professional. I’ve done nothing wrong."

Sexton is the former principal of Louisville's Eastern High School. He was hired by former Superintendent Stephen Daeschner when he was running Greater Clark County Schools.

When asked if this had to do with the new superintendent Sexton had this to say:

"He’s new. I don’t know what his feelings are for me. But I respect his authority to do this," said Sexton.

He is also a candidate in Louisville for Jefferson County School Board in the 7th District.

"“Timing is not good for this race. I want it to be positive. This creates unneeded doubt," said Sexton.

Greater Clark County School sent a statement to the media Friday confirming Sexton was on paid administrative leave and that it is not a disciplinary action.

District officials say, "it merely removes an eployee from his work location during a time when issues are being addressed." The issues are still unclear.
