(WHAS11) -- The University of Louisville is laying off nearly two dozen employees as a way to deal with a budget shortfall.
One of those employees is State Rep. Reginald Meeks. Meeks had worked at the university for 22 years, most recently as associate director for outreach programs in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The job cuts are part of an effort to trim costs before the next fiscal year, which begins on Sunday.
The General Assembly cut state funding by 6.4 percent, which created a nearly $10 million shortfall.
