LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto is speaking out about higher education as a blogger for The Huffington Post.

UK spokesman Jay Blanton says Capilouto is among several university presidents invited to blog for the news and opinion website. Blanton says the UK president sees it as an opportunity to discuss how the school is dealing with challenges in a tough economic climate.

In his first blog posted Wednesday, Capilouto stresses the need for innovation among public universities in an era of reduced state and federal funding. He mentions UK's partnership with a private development firm to replace aging dorms on the Lexington campus.

Capilouto says in his blog that it's one example of finding new solutions to old problems.

Blanton says Capilouto is not being compensated for the blog.
