LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The University of Kentucky is ramping up security measures on campus.

The measures include adding 2,000 surveillance cameras and ID cards that will allow students to enter buildings after hours, as well as track their locations.

Officials said the updated security will help campus police monitor crime and keep students, staff and visitors safe during emergencies.

UK is reportedly spending about $5,000,000 to install the new security system.
