MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Students will eat for free at two Mason County schools beginning this fall.

According to The Ledger-Independent (http://bit.ly/P1KYpm), students at Straub Elementary School and Mason County Intermediate School are participating in the Community Eligibility Option program.

As a result, students will receive free breakfast and lunch.

The program is part of President Barack Obama's Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

Kim Sapp, food service director for Mason County schools, says the program is considered the best option for providing meals to school with low-income students. The program provides meals to all students in schools in which 40 percent or more of the students receive some form of public aid.

Sapp says with so many facing tough economic times, this is a way for the school system to help parents.
