LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Between Monday, November 19 through Friday, January 11 parents can register and apply incoming Kindergartners,  anyone who has moved in JCPS or anyone who is not currently enrolled in JCPS for the 2013-14 school year.

Tahisha Barrett is getting ready to send her daughter Neaveh off to school. Neaveh will be entering Kindergarten this upcoming school year.

“I have an older daughter who is 10,” said Barrett. “So, I’ve been through this process before. So, it’s pretty easy and relatively painless.”'Things might be different for parents who have never registered their kids into JCPS before.

Lakeisha Taylor has two children who are going into elementary school in the upcoming year. She is learning a new process where the registration and application are only done online.

“Signing them up was crazy because of all of the paper work you have to have,” said Taylor. “Going back-and-forth to get it was a little crazy.”

The application period for middle and high schools began on October29.

After a student has been assigned a school, the parent will need to show their proof of residency. The district will only accept one of these forms: a utility bill (within three months), lease, house contract, pay stub, paycheck or a government check.

Parents can call the JCPS Student Assignment Office at 485-6250 for more information.
