Four New Albany/Floyd County schools are on the chopping block as the district is facing a near $7 million budget crunch.

Parents are fighting to keep the campuses open and Monday night, they'll get their chance to address the school board.

Of course this has parents very upset, the fact that four schools could close.

The superintendent of the New Albany/Floyd County Schools will recommend closing: Children's Academy of New Albany, Silver Street Elementary, Pine View Elementary and Galena Elementary.

He's also proposed moving fifth grade students and teachers to middle schools.

District officials say they don't plan to lay off teachers or school workers and they are not asking for higher taxes.

But they have to find a way to cut nearly seven million dollars from their budget.

Kathy Ayres, a concerned parent, said ”so many people that grew up here had a pleasant experience as a child and when they began having children they wanted their children to have that same experience. So, they bought their homes deliberately to give that to their children and now that's being lost to them.”

The school board will be at the meeting Monday night looking for the public's input starting at 7:00 p.m.
