CRESTWOOD, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An Oldham County teacher has been suspended for an outburst in the classroom. The superintendent is calling it conduct unbecoming a teacher.
In a copy of the notice of disciplinary action sent to East Oldham Middle School band director Kevin Cox, superintendent Will Wells wrote that Cox "threw fundraising materials" and "shouted in an angry tone to the point where a student had to be removed from the class because she was so upset." The notice goes on to say that while arguing with a student, Cox threw the student's book and grabbed her face.
Cox was suspended without pay for eight days following the incident.
Wells also wrote, "My expectation is that the interaction you have with students will foster mutual respect between yourself and your students. Allowing the inappropriate behavior of a student to become an excuse for inappropriate behavior on your part is not acceptable. My expectation is that you respond with a dispassionate professionalism focused on addressing student behavior appropriately and maintaining a positive learning environment."
The Cabinet for Health and Family Services was called, but declined to investigate the incident.
