Manual seniors team up with Habitat for Humanity

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The 2013 class of Manual High School ready to do something no other public school has done before in Louisville, build a house.

The class of 2013, nearly 500 strong is coming together for a special project. Senior class president Julian Wright made the big announcement about Project Build.

It is a partnership with Habitat for Humanity to build a home in April. It was an idea from Class Secretary Alice Darling.

They will build the house on St. Dennis Avenue in Shively. Many of the senior class officers have already met the family who will move in. The family is from the war torn country of Burundi.

Sairge, along with his wife and three kids, will call this neighborhood home. They had to live in a refugee camp for 14 years.

Habitat is paying for half the home, Yum brands has picked up another chunk. The seniors will need to raise about $20,000 and supply the manpower.
