Louisville ranks very bottom on fit city index

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - Not good for a city trying to promote a wellness plan, Louisville has come in number 49 out of 50 on the annual fit city index.

The American College of Sports Medicine ranked Louisville as number 49 on the list out of the 50 largest cities with only memphis, Tenn. below Louisville.

The fit city index is based on the healthiest and fittest metro areas in the country. The study focuses on each community's health behaviors, chronic health problems and recreational facilities.

Here's a look at the top five cities on the fit city index:
1. Washington D.C.

2. Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minn.

3. Portland, Ore.

4. Denver, Colo.

5. San Francisco, Calif.
