Louisville Mayor targets youth education

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) - - Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer spoke with youth and community leaders from the Portland Neighborhood  about how the programs that are in place to help young people succeed.

“The best thing we can do obviously for our young people is to help them succeed in school. It’s not just high school, but beyond.” Said Mayor Fischer. 

He said that 62 percent of people who are unemployed only have a high school diplomas.

Fischer said “Now more than ever, it's important to make sure our youth are finishing high school and getting a secondary education. The programs that work in our community have three key things high expectations, a clear structure, and discipline.”
