Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The Louisville Free Public Library is showing off the repairs that have been made to its main branch since the flash floods in August.
More than six feet of water flooded the library seven months ago, causing nearly $8 million in damages.
As part of its repair and recovery plan, the library is adding a teen center, a children’s library, and a 335 seat auditorium.
The library will also preserve its historic main lobby and grand entrance which dates back to 1908.
Craig Buthod, the library’s director, believes the public will be astonished by the progress that’s been made. “This is one of the most important public buildings. We’re going to fix it up,” he says.
The library says it’s spending $11.5 million on the renovations and repairs. The money will come from metro government capital funds, insurance claims, and a fundraiser.
